10:00 – 11:30 Crime Scene Investigation in the Real World

                        by Dr. Matthew E. Johll

We’ve all seen it on TV.  The police arrive at the scene of the crime and miraculously find the stray hair or fiber or the all-important fingerprint to nail the suspect for the crime.  They use state-of-the art technology and make it all happen in less than an hour!  Now we can learn the difference between what’s real and what is only on TV.  Dr. Johll is an author and a former professor at St. Norbert College.

Lunch is not provided in conjunction with these workshop sessions.

There are numerous local restaurants available in the local area.

1:00 – 2:30    You Be the Judge!  Ethics for Legal Support Staff

by the Honorable Mark G. McGinnis

Sometimes it is difficult to figure out what the right thing to do is in a situation, but this is an opportunity for us to learn information to help us keep ourselves, as well as the attorneys we support, out of trouble. A former trial attorney with an Appleton law firm who has taught numerous courses at the college level, our presenter has now served as a circuit court judge for Outagamie County since 2005 and has presided over cases in many varying areas of the law.

3:00 – 4:30    Assert Your Rights!

by Attorney Christine Wolk

With an office in Oshkosh, Ms. Wolk has been a bankruptcy attorney for over 20 years representing consumers in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings, foreclosure actions, as well as matters involving the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Truth in Lending Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and the Wisconsin Consumer Act. Tap into your own investigative skills while she shares important consumer protection tips and knowledge with us.

Lunch              The Story Behind the Mystery

by Attorney Raymond L. Edelstein

Attorney Edelstein, of the Williams & Edelstein LLP law firm, formerly served as a prosecutor in the District Attorney’s Office in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, and later with the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office before moving to Oshkosh in 1992.  Since then, he has been primarily spent his time as a criminal defense attorney—recently serving as co-counsel in the Brendan Dassey (a co-defendant of Stephen Avery) case.  Mr. Edelstein will share an interesting story of law and order with us relating to the State of Oklahoma vs. Jackie Lowrimore.
